Urban Drama
Urban drama is a sub genre of Drama, as it takes a more socially realist stance on the traditional drama genre. It can be sourced to the early 1940's in which it was used as a tool educate/ teach the audience. 'The Grapes of Wrath'. This was a very important aspect to incorporate into trailer. What stance dow we hold? What was the message we are trying to get across to our audience.
The environment in these dramas are very important, in these films as it is generally very influential to the protagonists. This was something that we that we made clear in our trailer especially with the use of the voice over combined with the shots. We ensured that we included many shots of the environment our protagonist lived in, in order to give our audience a clear picture.
The themes that are usually portrayed within the urban drama genre include race, multi-culturalism, labour, over-population, filth, chaos, an also corruption on their central characters. A type of urban drama that originated in the United States in the early to mid 90's, which features of primarily 'Black' culture, including music, street gangs, racial discrimination, poverty, and the problems of young men coming of age or struggling in a predominantly white society.
