Editing - Inspirations

Editing Inspirations

As a group we decided that it was important to create a criteria to ensure are editing would be of the best standard.

Editing Success Criteria:

  • Variety of shots
  • All aspects have to result in a smooth edit
  • Creativity
  • Ensure aspects do not overpower others e.g. sound
  • Subverting and conforming to genre conventions
  • sound in sync with moments
  • Range of angles, framing and duration
We looked at an opening sequence called the affair and also the teaser trailers of 666, Strange Days and Star wars and looked at the editing ideas that we could incorporate into our own teaser trailers.

What could we use?

  • The opening sequence of affair showed us some very good examples of layering/blending. we thought this could be very effective for our part of the teaser trailer as it would highlight our hybrid genre and that fact both genres are important to the plot and to the message that we are trying to get across.

  • We also thought we could incorporate the idea of black screens into our teaser trailer which was an idea we took from the Star Wars teaser trailer as we thought it could hep us build up tension when introducing certain shots and. It also causes the next shot to be more prominent, so therefore we would use it before shots we wanted to highlight.

  • We thought the sound in The Omen 666 teaser trailer was very affective as it was a very simple sound of a swing but helped build tension. By including this idea in our teaser would not only help us build tension but could also highlight the importance of what is going on in the shots to our audience. For example non diegetic sound of a quiet screech that builds up over shots of someone being beaten up.
