Our Colour Palette

Red

Red is the colour of fire and blood, therefore causing it to be associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion desire and love.
It is an emotionally intense colour. It enhances human metabolism, increases respiration rate and raises blood pressure. It is very high visibility which is why stop signs, spotlights and fire equipment use this strong colour. In heraldry red was used to indicate courage and the colour is found in many national flags.

The colour red brings text and images to the foreground. it is therefore used as an accent colour to stimulate people to make quick decisions. For example by making the words 'Buy Now' or 'Click Here' red.

In advertising, red is often used to evoke erotic feelings (red lips, red nails, re-light district, 'Lady in Red' etc.)

This is a very prominent colour within our project. We decided it would be very appropriate due to feelings the colour evokes from its audiences. It was also a bonus that the colour red brings images to the foreground meaning it will attract people to our poster and website as it will be visually stimulating.

White

White is associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity, and virginity. It is considered to be the colour of perfection.

White means safety, purity and cleanliness. As opposed to black, white usually has positive connotation. White can represent a successful beginning. In heraldry white depicts faith and purity.

In advertising, white is associate with cleanliness because it is the colour of snow. Many calm and serene things like doves and angles are white and therefore represent goodness.

Again we thought this colour would be appropriate for our project as it is strongly contrasts the representations of red and black. It also gives the idea that there is a loss of inocence within our piece.

Black

Black is associated with power, elegance, formality, death, evil, and mystery.
Death, evil and mystery are themes that we really wanted to play on and therefore made clear in our promotional package. Within out trailer the mystery theme was established. The colour black feeds in to the idea of fear and of the unknown (black holes). Our audience would question how our protagonist went from 'gangsta' to 'vampire', from stealing to blood thirsty. In other words they would question the whole idea of the urban - vampire hybrid and how it connects and links into each other.

Black also denotes strength and authority, which you correlates with both genres in our hybrid. An audience would expect the characters in a Urban or Vampire film to be very strong and have a lot of power. it also contrasts the bright colours used in the colour palette for our package, causing the other colours to stand out.
