Blade trailer:
- The establishing, time-lapse shot showing how the time is moving from day to night conveys the stereotypical conventions of vampires in that they are unable to function in day but are active during the night. The time-shift towards the night epitomises the presence of nocturnal supernatural beings. We too could use this establishing, time-lapse show because we have vampires in our trailer and this shot will show clearly that vampires are present in our film. Also, night perhaps symbolizes danger and the elements of violence, drug trafficking and criminal activity all relate to danger.
- The long-shot of a full moon also connotes themes of vampire stereotypes. Also, the red tint on the moon conveys clearly the idea of a 'blood moon' which symbolises the presence of vampires. With relation to our trailer, I feel that we could perhaps add this idea to our trailer however, because finding and filming a red moon / eclipse will be unlikely, we will have to add this effect in post-production editing.
- Throughout the trailer, low-key lit mise en scene is used with artificial lighting to convey the sense of danger. We could subvert and adhere to this theme because there is definitely danger in our trailer, however, the hybrid genre of a trailer would suggest that we should have a mixture of shots because the urban-drama element of our trailer would require us to not give a totally negative representation of archetypes in the trailer.
