Deconstruction of Red Riding Hood

Red riding hood:

·        The opening shot to this horror film is one of beauty which is ironic to the genre. However, the mise en scene of the beautiful forest and the picturesque romanticism occurring in the digetic world is symbolic of how there is a strong element of love in the film. In deeper analysis it could be inferred that the autumn leaves (shown through their bronzing) is symbolic of the coming of winter which epitomises the arriving presence of danger; also how the romantic times of autumn, and how they will not be able to extend into the cold, harsh months of the winter.

·        The editing at the very start of the trailer when the wolf has been identified as killing someone, the speed of editing is almost that of a heartbeat. This is symbolic of the fear which the people have for the wolf, demonstrating to the audience just how much a threat the wolf is to the village.

·        The typography of the trailer is highly effective because it abides by the conventions of the genre and also perhaps shows aspects of the film itself. The red clouds are highlighting the apparent threat of the wolf and the way in which the clouds cover the white writing show the overwhelming influence and power of this danger (the wolf) on the innocence within the film (red riding hood herself). Demonstrating the simplicity, yet meaningful impact and effect which typography can have on a teaser trailer.
