TAXI DRIVER TASK

In class, we developed a storyboard of 8 images long in relation to the film ‘Taxi driver.’ We were given the opening screenplay text and from this, we had to devise a storyboard paying close attention to cinematography.

In the first shot, we planned to film Travis Bickle, pensively grooming himself in the mirror whilst deeply analysing himself. This reflective scene were Bickle is clearly expressing emotions of withdrawal as a result of living in solitude, will work effectively to convey issues which he has in his life.

The second frame will be a close-up of Bickle, clearly reflecting silently to himself. This will help to give absolute clarity to the audience that Bickle is certainly a troubled individual.

The third shot will be a straight cut into Travis Bickle bowling confidently down the street. He walks with an element of masculinity and aggression as he strides, oddly, through the middle of the road. The high angle shot here in combination with the mise en scene will help to epitomise to the audience that Travis Bickle is undoubtedly an isolated individual.
The fourth shot will show a Dutch angle of Bickle walking past coffee shops and adult film houses. As he walks past the adult film house he examines the building with keen interest to show his sexual interests, allowing the audience to understand more about him as a character and what interests he has.
The fifth shot is vertical pan up the characters body as he walks down the street and towards the camera. This is to display to the audience what he is wearing, the mise en scene includes: boots, jeans, belt, shirt, jacket and hat.

This vertical pan continues as the camera tracks up his body until it reaches his head in shot seven. In the seventh shot the character is looking to the right at something off screen, this is shown through a close medium shot. In this shot hot steam flies out his mouth as his head turns to track a woman who is now on screen briefly as she walks past the character and off screen again.
